House & Family History: Gawsworth New Hall was begun in 1707 by Charles Mohun, 4th Baron Mohun, but abandoned in 1712 after Mohun's famous sword duel with the 4th Duke of Hamilton in Hyde Park, in which both men were killed (in a dispute over their inheritance of the Macclesfield estate).

Notes: Educated at Sedburgh and Manchester School of Architecture. Articled to Sir Percy Scott Worthington, 1905-10; Assistant, 1910-12. Assistant to Sir Edwin Landseer Lutyens, 1912-13. Passed qualifying exam 1912. Began independent practice circa 1913 in Manchester. Professor of Architecture at the Royal College of Art, London, 1923-28. Lecturer in Architecture, Oxford University, 1929. Lecturer in Fine Art at University College, Hull, 1933-34 and 1941. In partnership with Sir Percy Scott Worthington, and later with Percy son, Thomas Shirley Scott Worthington. Given an OBE in 1929 and knighted in 1949.
