Gartmore House

  • Earlier Houses: There was an earlier house on the site of the current house.

Built / Designed For: Nicol Graham

House & Family History: During World War II Gartmore was requisitioned by the British Army, which used the house as a barracks until 1950. In 1953 the Archdiocese of Glasgow purchased Gartmore House and established St. Ninian's School here, which was run by the De La Salle Brothers until the school closed in 1982. After St. Ninian's closed sexual and physical abuse of former students came to light, which resulted in the conviction of a number of the former staff. Since 1997 Gartmore House has been operated as a conference center and activity center.
