House & Family History: Fasque was built in 1809 at a cost of £30,000 by Sir Alexander Ramsay, who had changed his name by royal license from Burnett (of the Sir Thomas Burnett of Leys Clan) after inheriting his uncle's (Sir Alexander Ramsay of Balmain) estates and being created a baronet in 1806. In 1829 Fasque was bought by Sir John Gladstone. It was home to Prime Minister William Gladstone, and was the Gladstone family home until 2007. The house and its 337-acre estate, including 19 houses, cottages and buildings, was sold by Charles Gladstone for approximately £5 million in August 2007 to property developers Kincardine Farms LLP, a consortium of local farmers, who planned to convert the House into flats. However, in September 2007 the Estate was for sale again in 19 lots, with an asking price of £2 million for the House.
