Doddington Hall

  • Built / Designed For: Thomas Taylor

House & Family History: Doddington was designed by Robert Smythson for Thomas Taylor, registrar to the bishop of Lincoln. In 1749 the House was inherited by John Delaval (of Seaton Delaval in Northumberland), who carried out an extensive redesign of the interiors in the Georgian style. In 1830 George Jarvis inherited Doddington from his friend Sarah Gunman, who was heiress to the property. Since 1974 Doddington has been the family home of Anthony and Vicky Jarvis, who are direct descendants of George Jarvis.

Collections: Sir Joshua Reynolds' "1st Earl of Mexborough with his Wife and Son" was sold to the Leeds City Art Galleries in 1983, to remain onsite at Doddington.
