House & Family History: Francis Smith of Warwick prepared a design for Sir Charles Pye "who built the wings before the centre, and was unable to finish it according to his plans"; however, according to Andor Gomme, in "Smith of Warwick" (2000), Smith's plans for Clifton Campville were never executed. The wings are said to have been built in 1708.
