Carlton Towers (Carlton Hall)

  • Earlier Houses: There has been a house on, or near, the site of the current house since at least the 14th century.

    Collections: Two pair of early George III mahogany library open armchairs were sold at Christie's on December 5, 1991. Some contents, including parts of the contents of Heaton, Broughton and Glossop, were sold by Sotheby's on November 4, 2009 for a total of £1.9 million.

    Comments: Hugh Montgomery-Massingberd, writing in his book "Great Houses of England and Wales," says of the entrance façade of Carlton: "Surely the most spectacular of its kind in England and Wales."
