  • Built / Designed For: Sir John de Broughton

    House & Family History: William, 8th Lord Saye and Sele, was a political participant in the 17th century. When Charles I attempted to rule without the support of the Parliament, William opposed him. The House was thereafter used as a clandestine meeting place for the those in opposition to the king. During the English Civil War, William gathered a regiment and fought at the Battle of Edgehill with his four sons. Broughton was captured after the battle.
