House & Family History: In 1711 the essayist Thomas Addison purchased Bilton Hall from William Boughton, whose family had built the House in the early 17th century. In 1798 Addison's daughter died and the House was left to the Bridgeman-Simpson family. C.J. Apperley (aka "Nimrod"), the famous sports writer, leased the House in the early 19th century. Bilton is a brick house with transomed and mullioned windows.
