House & Family History: After the famous gardener Rosemary Verney's death, Barnsley House was sold (in a furious bidding war the House, listed for £2.25 million, went in the end for £2.75 million) in 2002 to Tim Haigh, who opened Barnsley as an upscale hotel in 2003.
Garden & Outbuildings: Barnsley House is home to the famous garden created by the late Rosemary Verey. The gardens contain fountains and statues by Simon Verity, furniture by Charles Verey, and two 18th century summer houses. The gardens won the HHA/Christie's Garden of the Year Award in 1988.
