House & Family History: John Asburnham assisted Charles I in his escape from Hampton Court in 1647. He also advocated for the House of Stuart and was thus lodge in the Tower of London for much of the Commonwealth. His great-grandson was made an earl in 1730. The House was demolished in 1926 and Earl Asburnham sold Asburnham House in Little Dean's Yard to the crown.
