House & Family History: The ruins of Ashby-de-la-Zouch include a tower, over 80 feet high, that was split in half during the Civil War. The castle became famous as a romantic ruin in the 19th century after it appeared in Sir Walter Scott's 1819 novel, "Ivanhoe."
