    House & Family History: Ardington is a lovely Baroque house built circa 1720 for Edward Clarke by the Strong family, master masons of Oxford who worked on Blenheim Palace. The Estate was purchased by Robert Vernon in 1833. Vernon is notable for making a fortune selling horses to the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars; he later donated a collection of paintings to the British nation.
