Built / Designed For: John Tregonwell III

House & Family History: In the 15th century the Anderson Estate was owned by the Turberville family, later made famous by Thomas Hardy in his book "Tess of the d'Urbervilles." In the 17th century John Tregonwell III, who owned Milton Abbey, purchased Anderson with the intention of building a small home for his retirement; the Civil War intervened in his plans and he was tossed out; he was later able to buy back the Estate and his descendants lived at Anderson until the 20th century.
