Alwoodley Hall (Alwoodley Old Hall)

  • Earlier Houses: There was an earlier Medieval house on, or near, the site of the 17th century house.

    Built / Designed For: Sir Gervase Clifton, 1st Bt.

    House & Family History: In 1969 Alwoodley Hall was taken apart, stone-by-stone, and left in a farmer's field for 30 years. In 1999 a Yorkshire couple, Steve and Louise Mitchell, purchased the remains of the house for £50,000; in 2002, when the Mitchells moved to Ireland, the stones of Alwoodley Hall came with them. In 2002 the disassembled house was listed for sale by the Mitchells for €200,000.
