House & Family History: A portrait of General John Burgoyne by Sir Joshua Reynolds, circa 1766, today hangs in The Frick Collection, New York City. General Burgoyne died at No. 10 Hertford Street on June 4, 1792. The contents of the House and the remaining portion of the lease was sold by Mr. Christie between December 21 and 26 of 1792. The famous dramatist Richard Brinsley Sheridan lived at No. 10 between 1795 and 1802. After World War II the House was converted into offices. The last business tenants decamped in the mid-1990s, when the House was purchased for conversion to a private residence. In 1996 two chimneypieces from the first floor drawing rooms were stolen. The House was put up for sale again in 1998.
