The House from a circa 1910 postcard
Built / Designed For: Isaac Hawkins Browne
Collections: Some contents of Badger Hall were sold in September of 1945.
Garden & Outbuildings: The Doric-style Temple, a folly designed circa 1783 by James Wyatt for the iron and coal magnate Sir Isaac Hawkins Browne, was saved and restored in the 1990s by the Vivat Trust as holiday accommodation. Famous for its painted furniture designed by Wyatt, the folly was built as a platform to view the Dingle, a deep sandstone gorge through which flows the River Whorfe (reproductions of Wyatt's furniture for the Temple, commissioned in the late 20th century by the Vivat Trust, are today in the collection of Weston Park, where they are part of the furnishing of the Temple of Diana). Sir Isaac hired William Eames to further enhance the setting of the Temple by landscaping the grounds of Badger Hall. The Temple, today called The Birdhouse, is currently operated by The Landmark Trust as a venue short holiday breaks.
